Our Story

Built to Make Big Movies Without the Bloat

Troublemaker Studios was founded by Robert Rodriguez and Elizabeth Avellán with one goal: make big movies without the bloat. Built on 20+ secure acres in Austin, Texas, the studio houses every department under one roof — production offices, soundstages, fabrication, art, wardrobe, props, and post-production. A turn-key creative campus built for speed, flexibility, and scale.

Home to the largest green screen in Texas and one of the world’s largest interchangeable backlots, Troublemaker has delivered 100+ productions — from shoestring indie films to $200M+ blockbusters. Total gross from studio productions: over $2 billion.

Robert Rodriguez

Co-Founder & Director

The filmmaker who rewrote the rules of indie production. Rodriguez broke through with El Mariachi at Sundance, made history with Once Upon a Time in Mexico as the first fully digital feature, and sparked the modern 3D resurgence with Spy Kids 3-D. His vision: make bold films faster and cheaper than the system allows.

Elizabeth Avellán

Co-Founder & Producer

A prolific producer and champion of the Texas film economy. Avellán designed the studio’s operational workflows from the ground up, eliminating the inefficiencies that inflate budgets and slow productions down. Her turn-key legacy ensures every project — regardless of scale — has everything it needs from day one.
